ROSA PISTOLA PRESENTA A FREEBOT
Born in 1982, Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, and based in Monterrey, Nuevo León, DJ Morphius is an old-school DJ and producer from the Mexican underground scene. He has been immersed in music since the year 2000. He began his career playing Chicago Hard House, Trance, and Psychedelic Trance. He describes his foray into music as a “call of the wild,” which led him, without any knowledge of musical theory, to buy the $99 USD version of FL Studio to explore his passion.
His early productions were deeply influenced by Hard House, a notable influence on his Tribal (3Ball) style of the time. Among his greatest influences is DJ Trajic, the pioneer of Hard House from the legendary Chicago label Underground Construction, from whom he learned a lot and with whom he has a friendship. DJ Morphius also mentions Toy Selectah as a figure of admiration and respect, with whom he has had the fortune to collaborate and learn in his studio.
DJ Morphius also talked about his creative process, where the inspiration for his most significant songs comes spontaneously and unforced, whether in the shower or upon waking. Ideas for riffs and phrases for trumpets, synthesizers, or bass lines simply formulate in his mind.
Like many underground artists, one of the biggest challenges has been gaining acceptance and recognition from the public in Mexico, a country where there tends to be admiration only for foreign talent and not for local talent. The producer reflects on the lack of mutual support among artists and colleagues in the Latin creative sphere, a barrier that, although not an impediment, has been a constant feeling throughout his career. However, a piece of advice from Toy Selectah convinced him to feel proud of his roots and to incorporate them into his music without thinking about anything else. This marked a turning point in his approach and attitude, leading him from Hard House and Trance to Tribal (3Ball) music and Latin Circuit House, now known as Guaracha.
One of his productions he is especially proud of is "Trompeta y Guaracha" a song that had an unanticipated great impact among DJs and dance floors. The producer describes guaracha as a genre that could become the representative of Latin electronic music in the coming years. As for his legacy, DJ Morphius aspires to be remembered as an important pillar in Latin underground electronic music, leaving behind hundreds of timeless productions destined for the dance floor. He also foresees a future where electronic music created by Latinos receives its deserved recognition and has a significant impact worldwide. He wishes for his name to be part of the history being written about this emerging movement.
DJ Morphius has traveled a path full of learning and challenges, with a clear vision of the evolution and potential of guaracha and tribal in the global music scene. His story is a testament to passion, perseverance, and pride in his cultural roots, hoping to inspire future generations of Latin musicians.
