In this special episode of Radio Super, I want to pay tribute to one of my favorite Tribal producers: DJ Syztema.
Edgar Padilla Rodríguez is originally from Mexico City and proudly lives in Ecatepec—or as he calls it: Ecatepunk pa’ la banda.
Syztema started out really young, at 13, back in 2011, with a tiny laptop with 1 GB of RAM, Windows XP, and a pirated copy of FL Studio. With those basic tools—but fueled by love and passion for music—he began creating sound experiments that slowly transformed into songs.
His inspiration was born at home: watching his father be a DJ with a sound and light system, mixing, buying records, and putting together selections left a permanent mark on him. By the age of 12, he was already playing at a party hall, learning how to read the crowd and control the energy on the dance floor. And as a reward for doing well in middle school, his dad gave him his first MIDI controller. That was the true beginning of DJ Syztema’s story.
Tribal came to him naturally: among the electronic records playing at home, there were those tracks infused with cumbia flavor and the magical touch of masters like Ricardo Reyna. From then on, Tribal wasn’t just music for him it became the medium he used to express himself and create from the heart.
Throughout his journey, he’s created over a thousand tracks, though sadly many are lost rarities scattered in time. Among his influences he cites Ricardo Reyna, Erick Rincón, Clap Freckles, Alan Rosales, DJ Sobrino, and DJ Cucañas, but with his own style he’s managed to build a unique voice within Tribal.
This mixtape is my tribute to Syztema: a journey through his work, his essence, and his contribution to the movement. Because Tribal can’t be understood without producers like him, who from Ecatepunk to the world keep producing and keeping the genre alive.
